And in the evenings, friends and family members would gather around the radio, that mysterious device, to listen fascinated to the sounds that came from the big cities. “After all there was another world beyond my village!” He could not resist the temptation of discovery and left. If he was a writer, this would be the way he would start one of the first chapters of his life history. "I am no writer, I am but a learner of life, with a great thirst to know the world, and people." He became a sailor, and discovered with his eyes the wonderlands of Africa. He is an immigrant, in the new world trying to find himself in this vastness where Gaspar Corte Real got lost. He has a bit of a poet, and a lot of a dreamer. He loves the evenings, but the birth of the Sun is for him still the greatest spectacle offered by nature. José Carlos gets up every day at three in the morning, not only to watch the birth of a new day, but also to work on the radio that he believes is still the best bridge to bring people together. Hide

  Read More ked. She had a very happy childhood, surrounded by her family, relatives and friends. She came to Canada when she was very young and learned a lot in “Life’s University”. Cristina da Costa is a born fighter and her daughters are her priorities. She co-produces and co-hosts the radio show "Despertar à Portuguesa". She has neither any musical upbringing nor can she sing... all she has is a huge passion for music... just like those people who cannot cook but love eating. And almost a dozen years involved in a radio show gave her the understanding of the musical preferences of the majority of the listeners. In May 2008, Cristina produces and hosts "Dois Dedos de Conversa" a radio program devoted to interviews… which brought to light many unknown names… others less so. A radio program which essence was to make known our community, a show that introduced us to the people who dwells among us and breathes the same air. Fifteen months later "Dois Dedos de Conversa" paved the way for “Dois Dedos de Música” this is essentially a musical program that scans back Oldies, Goldies & Hits of our musical landscape. In 1981 António César came to Canada to work at the former Portuguese Radio Club which was the embryo of 88.7 CIRV FM, where he also worked as program director and announcer until joining CHIN radio in 1989 where he produces and hosts the successful Saturday radio show Magazine FM.   Read More A prime communicator, she was born in Amora, Seixal municipality, where she took and finished the Administration and Commerce course. In Toronto and after a time of "do-it-all", as most newcomers, she does not waste the opportunity to work for CIRV FM 88.9, as a seller of advertising and announcer, work that was crucial in the contact with the Portuguese Community. She was a coordinator for the project "50 years later, we speak Portuguese," included in the commemoration of the arrival of Portuguese pioneers to Canada, which involved all Portuguese schools in Ontario and Manitoba. She worked as a volunteer at St. Christopher's House, she performed the functions of public relations at Casa das Beiras deToronto and she was Secretary and Public Relations at Casa dos Açores do Ontário where she is an honorary member. For two years she was the Public Relations for PALUCA (the Annual Luso Canadian Picnic) At City TV, she hosted some "talk shows" and she is an "habitué” as the MC at community festivities. In 2007, Fátima joins CHIN FM 100.7 Portuguese team as a studio and remote announcer. Fátima Martins loves a good conversation and in her spare time she likes staying at home in pajamas, she also loves traveling and reading. She speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish and is taking sign language course at George Brown College. Getting back to acting and finishing the Arraiolos tapestry she started some time ago, are some of her short term plans. Hide
